The Uzbek grandmaster Rustam Kasimdzhanov (pictured above) won the top prize of the first Central Asian Chess Cup held in Tashkent.

More than 50 athletes from Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan participated in the tournament organized under the auspices of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Chess Federation of Uzbekistan.

At the competition, which consisted of nine rounds, the fight for the top prize went to the last game. Rustam Kasymjanov completed the tournament without a defeat, gaining 7.5 points from 9 possible.

The second place went to Kazakh grandmaster Pavel Kotsur, and the third to another Uzbek chess player Begali Saidov, UzA informs.

Among women, all prizes were won by representative of Uzbekistan. International category sports master Nafisa Muminova (pictured above) won the gold medal, Hulkar Tohirjonova became second and Irina Gevorkyan third.

The national team of Uzbekistan, which recorded the best score in the tournament, was awarded the Central Asian Cup.
