PRESS-RELEASE. ON THE MEETING AT THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE REPUBLIC OF UZBEKISTAN

On July 6 this year the delegation of the Republic of Latvia led by the Foreign Minister Aivis Ronis, who is paying a visit to Uzbekistan, held talks in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

During the talks the sides had an exchange of views on the present state and prospects of development of the Uzbek-Latvian relations in the political, trade and economic spheres, as well as relations in the framework of the European Union.

During the meeting the sides paid a special attention to outstanding international and regional issues of mutual interest, including the situation in Afghanistan. In this context, the sides have noted about the growing urgency of the initiative of the President of the Republic Uzbekistan Islam Karimov on the Contact Group “6+3”, envisaging establishment peace and stability in Afghanistan.

The sides also paid attention to the recent tragic events in the south of Kyrgyzstan. The Latvian delegation highly appreciated the actions of the Government of Uzbekistan on rendering the necessary aid to the victims and refugees, who had crossed the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border.

During the talks the sides have agreed to extend the further inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
