World Food Day is celebrated every year on October 16. This day has been proclaimed in 1979 at the conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, held on the occasion of her 34th birthday.

The main aim of the day is to raise public awareness of the problem of food in the world.

During the conference, countries officially declared one of the most important tasks of eradication of hunger in the world and the creation of conditions for the development of sustainable agriculture, which would be able to feed the entire population of the planet.

In Uzbekistan, food security is a priority task that is carried out under the direct supervision of complex head of state. Within a short period of independent development in the country has undergone profound reforms that allowed almost entirely to diversify agriculture and provide the population with basic food products, establish a high-volume of their exports. In particular, our country, which previously imported more than 80% of the demand for grain, grain gained independence. Annually, the country produces more than 7 million. Tonnes of this crop. For nearly 20 years the agriculture of our country shows a steady positive growth. Large-scale transformation and qualitative changes in the agricultural sector will greatly increase production.

The unique land and climatic conditions of the republic provide opportunities for growing the main types of high-quality fresh fruit and vegetables in a large assortment. This in turn allows you to create a solid base for sustainable provision of vegetables and melons.

However, large-scale work on the comprehensive support and development of farmer movement, strengthening the material-technical base of farms, economy, rational use of land, water and other natural resources. Ameliorative condition of lands is being improved, high-yielding areas of intensive gardening, drip irrigation system are created.

Country's fruits and vegetables contain essential minerals for human health and biologically valuable substances, which are essential in the diet.

It should be noted that in recent years cooperation between FAO and Uzbekistan is expanding through technical assistance to the development of the agriculture sector.
