07/02/11 - Tashkent’s economy grows 12.4%

The gross regional product of the city of Tashkent increased by 12.4% in 2010 thanks to the successful implementation of the anti-crisis program.

Industrial production grew by 16.4%, consumer goods production by 10%, construction works by 17.1%, services by 17.2%, UzA informs.

Exports increased by 44.5% during the year. Foreign direct investments worth USD 24 million were attracted.

In the framework of the localization program, production of almost 10 new products were launched, including steel wire, parts for cars and buses, medicaments and others.

The share of small business in the city’s GRP made up 49.9%, in industry 39%, in construction 45.8%. 57% of all employed are working in the small business sector.

Over the 12 months, almost 80,500 new workplaces were created in the capital due to opening of new industrial enterprises, expansion of the existing ones, development of small and family business.
