17/06/11 - Tashkent to host international festival of contemporary cinema

In October, Tashkent will host the First International Festival of Contemporary Cinema, organized by the Forum of Culture and Arts of Uzbekistan and Uzbekkino National Agency.

At a press conference, held at the Fund Forum of Culture and Arts of Uzbekistan, the media representatives were provided with detailed information about preparations for the event.

In the years of independence under the leadership of President Islam Karimov, special attention has been paid to the development of national cinema and the enrichment of distinctive traditions and schools and the creation of artistic works to improve the spirituality of youth. The First Tashkent International Festival of Contemporary Cinema is organized to further develop the national cinematography, familiarize viewers with the latest national and world cinema, promoting international cooperation in the field.

The Director-General of the festival art critic Akbar Khakimov said that films of various genres will be selected within the frame of the forum, to analyze creativity of young filmmakers in our country, examine trends in world cinema and increase the artistic taste of the audience.

During the preparation process, the Fund Forum of Culture and Arts of Uzbekistan held a show contest “Inception.” Over 30 short films made in 2009-1011 by young specialists competed at the contest. The works of the winners of the contest will be recommended to attend the festival in October.

The winners of the show contest were awarded with diplomas at the conference.
