14/10/11 - Uzbekistan, Italy develop economic ties

The session of the Uzbek-Italian intergovernmental working group for trade, economic and industrial cooperation and export credits was held in Tashkent on 7 October.

The event took place in the framework of the visit of the large Italian business delegation, headed by deputy minister of economic development of Italy Catia Polidori.

Deputy minister of foreign economic relations, investments and trade of Uzbekistan Shavkat Tulyaganov said relations between the two countries were actively developing in the economic field.

Italy is one of the reliable partners of Uzbekistan in Europe. The two states had signed agreements on avoidance of double taxation, mutual settlement of international cargo and passenger transportation by roads, cooperation in the fields of culture, science and tourism.

The volume of mutual trade made up USD 151.9 million in 2010, and in the first eight months of this year the figure has already exceeded USD 153.9 million. More than 30 joint ventures created with Italian investments operate in Uzbekistan.

“Italy has a great interest to development of cooperation with Uzbekistan,” Catia Polidori, who is the working group co-chairman, said. “The promising areas of cooperation are trade, energy, textile, construction and many others.”

She said the Torino Polytechnic University (Polito) which is functioning in Tashkent was an excellent example of successful cooperation between the two countries.

On the same day, the Uzbek-Italian business forum and a cooperation exchange were held in Tashkent, UzA informs.
