30/06/11 - German Business Delegation Holds Talks at the Uzbek Foreign Ministry

On June 23, 2011 the Minister for Economics, Labour and Transport of Lower Saxony Jörg Bode, who is visiting Uzbekistan with the representatives of business circles of Germany, held a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, the sides noted the gradual development of the mutual beneficial cooperation between Uzbekistan and Germany. The bilateral relations are multidimensional and based on equality, mutual respect and trust. The sides underlined that they have close or common positions on many key international issues, ensuring regional security. Uzbekistan and Germany hold intensive political dialogue and develop inter-parliamentary relations. Germany is a main economic partner of Uzbekistan in Europe. The trade between the two states exceeded USD 480 million in 2010. The positive trend is also observed this year. The investments occupy a special place in the Uzbek-German cooperation. Currently, the sides implemented joint projects worth over 1 billion euros. The German companies, who have good experience in various fields, participated in establishing high-technologic production capacities in Uzbekistan.

During the negotiations, the sides expressed a keen interest in active participation of the companies from Low Saxony in the projects on modernization and technologic re-equipment of enterprises in Uzbekistan and at the Navoi free industrial economic zone, including creation in the framework of FIEZ the capacities on production of energy saving technologies and use of alternative energy resources.

The sides exchanged views on developing the new directions of cooperation, first of all, in implementing the investment projects to produce commercial cars, reconstruct highways, manufacture modern road construction equipment, and agriculture.

Also, the sides manifested interest in developing cooperation in tourism and other.

According to a three-day program of stay in Uzbekistan, the German delegation led by Jörg Bode will hold talks at the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade of Uzbekistan. The business circles of Uzbekistan and Germany are expected to hold joint business forum, as well as participate in the cooperation exchange. The German business representatives wished to visit one of the 114 operating enterprises established with German investors.

German Ambassador to Uzbekistan Wolfgang Neuen participated in the talks at the Foreign Ministry.
