The Uzbek-Japanese Center operating in Tashkent is a vivid example of the active cooperation of Uzbekistan and Japan in the cultural and humanitarian spheres.

The center, which opened in 2001, provides training for entrepreneurs, language and IT courses and information for those wishing to learn more about Japan. The center hosts cultural events, seminars and exhibitions.

Students, teachers and professionals are among the frequent visitors to the Uzbek-Japanese Center. It has a library, video and audio collections and an internet access section.

At present, about 300 people are learning Japanese language at the center. Those intending to pursue a career in business may attend professional management program, as well as short-term special courses and seminars, or take distance learning courses.

Calligraphy lessons, tea ceremonies, national cuisine and musical instruments playing courses and many other events help to deepen the cultural ties between Uzbekistan and Japan, UzA notes.

In 2007, the center opened a branch at Bukhara State University.
