07/12/11 - Uzbek athletes among the strongest on the continent

The Asian Championship and the Asian Cup in Weightlifting completed in Tashkent. Over 120 athletes from more than 10 countries participated in the competition. In the competition among under 20-year-olds, Marina Sysoyeva, Gulnora Abduganiyeva, Kristina Vavilova, Dilafruz Kandagarova, Sardor Dustmuradov and Shuhrat Shomuradov showed the best results. Each of these athletes won three gold medals. Dastan Yakubov took the first place in the lift in jerk. In the team event, Uzbek athletes took the first place among participants under 20. Uzbekistan also showed high results in the adults competitions. The country’s team was the leader among women, the Iranian team was the first and the Turkmen team second among men, while the Uzbek weightlifters were third.
