The implementation of the country program on decent work discussed

A "round table" on the topic "Implementation of Decent Work Country Programs and social aspects of mechanization of the agricultural sector" took place on March 3 at the training center of the Council of Federation of Trade Unions.

The "round table" was attended by representatives of the Ministry of labor and social protection of population of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Council of Federation of trade unions of Uzbekistan, the chamber of Commerce of Uzbekistan, interested ministries and departments, research institutes, International labor organization (ILO), World Bank (WB), representatives of the diplomatic corps in Uzbekistan, international organizations and NGOs, the public and the media.

The realization of adopted components "Country Programme for decent work," Uzbekistan's cooperation with the World Bank for the modernization of agriculture of the Republic, as well as issues of monitoring by a third party (MTP) and a feedback mechanism (FM) in World Bank projects were discussed at the event.

The Minister of labor and social protection of population of the Republic of Uzbekistan A.Abduhakimov in his speech said that the government of Uzbekistan pays great attention to cooperation with international organizations such as the ILO and the World Bank in improving labor legislation, attaches great importance to the implementation of labor standards.

In his speech, the WB regional Director for Central Asia Saroj Kumar Jha said that the country has taken specific and effective measures to implement the Country programme. The main areas of cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the World Bank, he noted that the Bank is actively involved in the implementation of projects on modernization of the agricultural sector, carried out in the Republic, the amount of funding currently exceeds $650 million.

In particular, the Minister of agriculture and water resources M.Kosimov in his speech said that the government takes appropriate measures to progressively increase the level of mechanization of agriculture. An agreement was reached with the World Bank on financing and modernization of agriculture, which signed the relevant agreements.

The World Bank representative Loran Debrua noted that Uzbekistan pays special attention to the modernization and development of agriculture. With financial assistance in the regions of the Republic projects are realized on improvement of water resources management, agricultural sector support, especially farms and enterprises, specializing in the agricultural sector.

Additionally, the participants of the "round table" heard reports about Uzbek cooperation with the ILO, about ensuring that working conditions in agriculture that meets the requirements of the basic standards and norms of the ILO.

The ILO representative Kari Tapiola spoke about a close and constructive cooperation, established between Uzbekistan and the ILO. The Memorandum of understanding and “Decent work Country Programmes" are an example of an active dialogue, which involves the cooperation of Uzbekistan with the ILO on the implementation of the fundamental conventions of the ILO and conventions ratified by Uzbekistan. Worthy of the attention and efforts of the government of the Republic of Uzbekistan on creation of new jobs, ensuring safe working conditions and protection of labor rights of workers.

The Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce A.Shayxov noted that the Chamber has taken certain measures to strengthen the capacity of organizations of employers on the implementation of fundamental principles and rights at work, raising awareness among employers for recruitment to ensure safe working conditions at the workplace, and to improve the social responsibility of employers.

The round table was held in a constructive and open spirit, representatives of the World Bank and the ILO appreciated adopted in the Republic measures on modernization of agriculture, and also expressed interest in expanding financing of projects of modernization of the agricultural sector and equip them with modern technology and equipment.
