Alisher Navoi State Academic Bolshoi Theater’s troupe has once again awed and enraptured the art admirers by reinventing a masterpiece of world classics – Georges Bizet’s opera Pearl Fishers, on the country’s principal stage.

The theater had dreamt about it for a long time. And at last, a long-awaited premiere took place which was accomplished by Honored Art Figure, already recognized in the country production-director Haydarali Qosimov and Honored Art Figure, music director and conductor Fazliddin Yoqubjonov. “Today it is a very happy day for us,” shared his impressions right after the opening Haydarali Qosimov. “We highly value this fine opera because it is put in French – a source language. Leading soloists of theater are engaged in the performance: People’s Artist of Uzbekistan Muyassar Razzoqova, People’s Artist Avaz Rajabov, as well as all young promising actors are involved. Participants of choir, symphonic orchestra under the direction of the main conductor of the theater Fazliddin Yoqubjonov and all who worked over performance demonstrated their high skills as well. First of all, the opera’s rich musical material is hugely attractive, difficult enough for performing. That is the reason, why world theaters extremely seldom address to this product. We have excellent voices, and the present premiere in this respect displayed that rich potential of our theater.” Six months of persistent work and creative search preceded the premiere. The result amazed by its fancy and beauty. From the very first scene the audience saw all magnificence and professionalism with which scenery was set up. Art director Zubaydullo Botirov, already known by his no less beautiful sceneries for other performances, tried to do his best on it once again. Suits for heroes by Lobar Polvonova were looked bright and colorful as well.

Normo’min Sultonov – Nodir and Anjelika Muhamedjanova – Leyla performed leading roles.

“The image of Leyla is close to me by its surprising on beauty and sounding music,” says Anjelika Muhamedjanova. “This fragile, feminine, kind woman desperately struggles for her love, and she ready for the sake of it even to sacrifice her life. Certainly, I was quite excited, when started learning this role, because it have to be executed in French. I was busy with it most part of my time, it was difficult enough, but the result costs it. And, wow, I’ll have it. I was surrounded with our remarkable actors, wonderful music, orchestra, and I also tried to correspond to all of them.”

“Pearl Fishers is a very delicate opera, thus we tried to show our best – belkanto, as Italians say,” noted Normo’min Sultonov. “It seems to me that we managed to do it today, proceeding from warm welcome of the audience. And I am very happy that this opera has taken place, we have practically carried out all tasks we face. All was stunning.”

“This opera is written for individual performance of soloists and if the soloist meets requirements of the composer, it will sound, if not, then opera will simply be lost,” emphasized Bahtiyor Yoqubov, director of Navoi Bolshoi Theater. “Today, very few soloists perform Nodir’s part, not because they do not want, they simply not able to perform it, this part is quite difficult. Yet, our theater has voices capable to perform the most difficult parts. One of them is Normo’min Sultonov.Today he was magnificent, and after performance of his aria the audience gave the singer thunderous ovations. It is the merit of our soloist for sure. Avaz Rajabov who acted as Zurgi was also at his best. Prolonged applauses of the audience during the whole performance pleased me hugely, because all were on the top: soloists, choir, symphonic orchestra conducted by People’s Artist of Uzbekistan Sulaymon Shodmonov. It was an immediate success.”
