Great number of tourists, idlers, curious passersby and Uzbek flat cake lovers have come together these days at the festival of “Non Sayli” (Festival of Bread) in Samarqand.

The holiday of bread – festival Non Sayli in Uzbekistan is organized not for the first time. The festival took its start in Tashkent, in the most “bread city” of the country. Initially the right to organize this event belonged to the “city of grain”, and some years ago Non Sayli moved to one of the tourist cities – Samarqand.

Respective attitude of people of Uzbekistan to bread is the important element of the national culture, and Samarqand flat cake since long time is considered one of the main symbols of the ancient city. For this reason Non Sayli not only demonstrates the abundance and diversity of bread products but also maintain the ancient traditions of hospitality and glory of Samarqand bread. This year the holiday of bakers, flat cakes and gourmets takes place in the street passing on territory of the Alisher Navoi central park where every willing could take pleasure of aroma, taste and beauty of shapes of newly-baked flat cakes. The celebratory atmosphere was sated with various competitions and national games. Variety of kinds of the Uzbek flat cake amazes. Along with the most widespread obi-non and patir there are other unique kinds baked rather seldom and only in certain regions of the country. The bread kind of each area differs in leaven, special technology and unique taste. Samarqand region is the native land of flat cake Gala-Osiyo non the name of which is connected with the settlement Gala Osiyo, whence comes this bread. The Uzbek flat cakes are not only tasty and nutritious products. Frequently, round, reminding by its shape and color a bright sun, fragrant and hot flat cake represents a genuine masterpiece for making of which the baker put his heart and soul.
