The State Conservatory of Uzbekistan has hosted the presentation of the book by the researchers of the Uzbek folk dances Shoira Qurbonova and Holiq Khursandov – The Surkhon School of Dance. The Ministry for Culture and Sports of Uzbekistan, Republican Scientific Methodical Center for Folk Creativity and Cultural Enlightenment as well as the administration of Sho’rchi district, Surkhondaryo region, have organized the event.

“Extremely huge research work has been done for creation of this book,” tells O’rozali Toshmatov, the head of the Republican Center for Folk Creativity at the Ministry for Culture and Sports Affairs of Uzbekistan. “The authors having visited various parts of Surkhondaryo region of Uzbekistan studied lots of dancing elements and gestures, as well as musical motifs. As a result, they managed to build quite interesting material. Up to now it was considered that there are three choreographic schools in Uzbekistan: Tashkent-Farg’ona, Bukhoro and Khorazm. Now, with the release of this, we could say with confidence about the fourth one – the Surkhon school of dance.”

The book authors are considered the experts of the most popular Boysun National School of Dance. Shoira Qurbonova is engaged in staging of the Surkhon dances for what she was decorated with the medal “Shuhrat.” Holiq Khursandov is the founder of the folk ensemble “Boysun.”

The book has colorful photos demonstrating special features and refinement of the Surkhon dancing art that is distinct in rather vast genre variety. For instance, male and female dances – “pichoq”, “duchava”, “chorqars”, “qoshiq”, “chiroq”, “chanqovuz”, and others. They have their special features in staging, costumes and special attributes of performance. These skills used by the local from the extreme past are traditionally passed over from generation to generation.

Totally sixteen mostly spread dances are described in the book in detail, notes for music, and separate audio supplement. Thanks to it the book turns interesting everyone – to choreography field specialist and ordinary amateurs willing to get familiarized with this art.

All riches of the Surkhon dances were demonstrated at the presentation of the book by the popular and young performers: the ensemble of song and dance “O’zbekiston”, the band “Surkhon”, the People’s Artist of Uzbekistan and Karakalpakstan Mahmud Namozov and the laureate of the Festival of Children’s Creativity “Yangi Avlod” Nilufar Yusupova.

O’rozali Toshmatov noted: “The Surkhon School of Dance still not studied in full, now is profoundly described in the book. It will raise the professional level of performance of folk dance of not only Surkhondaryo but other regions of Uzbekistan.”
