Liberalization of monetary policy has become a milestone in the development of Uzbekistan’s economy

The new procedure, as envisaged in the Strategy of Actions along Five Priority Areas for the Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021, contributes to the expansion of the country’s export capacity, improvement of the investment climate and business environment.

As known, in pursuance of the above-mentioned document, Uzbekistan opened free conversion of foreign currency on September, 5. The results of this event were discussed at a press conference of representatives of the Central Bank in Tashkent.

In particular, since the opening of the conversion, the population has sold about $200 million to the banks, more than $100 million has been purchased from entrepreneurs and organizations engaged in foreign economic activity.

Journalists took interest in changes in prices for imported products. Experts noted the absence of grounds for price growth. These days, the relevant ministries and agencies, including the State Customs Committee, are working on an action plan to further optimize rates of customs duties and prevent the growth of domestic prices for certain types of food products. The Presidential Decree ‘On further streamlining of Uzbekistan’s foreign economic activity’ signed September 12 is an important guide to action in this direction. The document canceled customs duties for importation of sugar cane or sugar beet and chemically pure sucrose in the solid state as of September 15. The work in this direction is underway.

The press conference touched upon the conveniences created for entrepreneurs by the Presidential Decree ‘On priority measures for liberalization of monetary policy’. For instance, the individual entrepreneurs who are engaged in imports of consumer goods but do not have the status of a legal entity, are allowed to purchase foreign currency in accordance with the established procedure. The requirement of obligatory sale of proceeds in foreign currency by exporters was canceled.

Ultimately, the ongoing measures on liberalization of foreign exchange policy in our country yield positive results. This helps to ensure the stability of the national currency, further increase exports of domestic products, exporting enterprises, create new jobs, and strengthen the trust of foreign investors.

1st OCTOBER – the Teacher’s and Mentor’s Day

To Sow the Seeds of the Reason, Good, Eternity

These days, festive events are in full swing in our country on the occasion of the Day of Teachers and Mentors, marked in Uzbekistan on the first day of October. The educators receive congratulations in the form of extensive reforms in the sphere. This year there are a lot of initiatives that should make education in our country more qualitative and meeting the requirements of the time.

The transition to 11-year school education has been accomplished. As shown in the survey of school leavers on June 18-20, the absolute majority of them - 352 out of 467 thousand, or 75% want to continue their studies in 10th grades in general schools, as opposed to academic lyceums and professional colleges. Thus the schools are engaged in developing new curricula, programs and textbooks. On the basis of workshops 615 vocational colleges organize production training complexes, where about 7,000 neighboring schools are attached. And for 2.7 thousand educational institutions, which are located far from colleges, 1,103 of its complexes are being created. There they will teach locksmith, forge, sewing, culinary, hairdressing, embroidery and other specialties. Together with the certificate of 11-year education, the children will receive a state-recognized document that allows them to work.

The development of a network of private schools has been launched. Increasing their number, according to experts, will promote competition between private and public institutions and, as a result, improve the quality of education.

For the first time, the development of preschool education has been elevated to the status of a state program. Today, on the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the issues on the creation of a separate ministry are being worked out, which would create conditions that will ensure the coverage of all preschool children by children’s institutions.

Development and received a system of higher education. Along with the transformations of existing educational institutions, new universities have appeared in the regions. So, for example, in Surkhandarya region, where only one university was functioning - Termez State University, two more were opened - these are branches of Tashkent agrarian and technical universities. And the Chirchik Pedagogical Institute has resumed its activity.

At the same time, on these holidays, I would like to once again congratulate our esteemed and beloved teachers and mentors, who every day enter classes or audiences in order to sow reasonable, good, eternal.
