A network of modern trade centers and shops are to emerge across Uzbekistan to specialize in the sale of seafood

It is interesting that here the country will follow the path laid in the last century. Back in the late 1970s, the republic saw the massive construction of stores under the title Ocean.

The goal was simple - to provide the population with quality and cheap fish products. And it was achieved: in the 1960s and 1970s there had been practically no fish products on the shelves of fish stores, but by the mid-1980s fish consumption per capita reached 18.6 kg.

For comparison, today the share of fish in the total consumption of Uzbek people is extremely small. For example, in Europe, on average, every person eats 35-40 kg of fish per year, and in Uzbekistan it is no more than 4 kg. At the same time, the minimum necessary rate of fish consumption in the country is set at 12 kg per person, while in the world this figure is 16.6 kg.

A new specialized store chain should appear before the end of 2019. It is planned that in addition to selling, these shopping centers will have special restaurants and cafes specializing in the preparation of seafood dishes. A similar practice existed in the stores Ocean.

Many indigenous Tashkent residents still remember the flagship store of this network located close to the former hotel Russia. In addition, live fish was sold in special pools in all major markets and in department stores.

According to Ruhulla Kurbonov, the first deputy chairman of the Uzbekbaliqsanoat Association, private and public investment will be used to create new trade complexes.

“To boost the consumption of fish, it is essential to streamline all our efforts in one direction: we must offer convenient forms of purchasing seafood. They are small shops, large specialized shopping complexes, where only fish products will be sold. We used to enjoy them before, and we lost them,” said Kurbonov.

He also added that a significant increase in fish production is planned in the country and, if shops are not created in parallel, entrepreneurs simply will not be able to realize the goods.

Ruhulla Kurbonov also commented on the possibility of increasing the cost of fish products due to the use of foreign intensive technologies.

“Any intensive technology provides for electricity and feed. But this does not mean that the price will rise sharply. To date, the government has created such conditions for fish producers whereby they do not pay for land, water and other resources. New technologies will increase the productivity of fish from a hectare and this will make it possible not to increase sharply the cost of production in general to restrain price risks,” the first deputy chairman of Uzbekbaliqsanoat Association suggested.

MAY 9 - DAY OF MEMORY AND HONOR

Return of the Friendship of Peoples

At the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the former Palace of Friendship of Peoples (now called Istiqlol) has been reverted to its former name.

“In order to restore historical justice and to perpetuate the noble qualities and values of the people it is important to return the memorial complex “Friendship of Peoples” dedicated to the Shamahmudovs family to the square in the center of the capital,” said the head of state, speaking recently at a videoconference meeting.

“There are few countries and nations in the world who can be proud of such high human qualities as the family of the Tashkent blacksmith Shaahmed Shamahmudov, who took 15 children during the war,” the President suggested. He also added that the name Shamahmudov would be given to a street in the Shaykhantahur district of Tashkent, and the metro station, square and the Istiqlol Palace will take their names.

Social networks these days are literally thriving with comments, asserting that the Shamahmudovs’ heroism became a symbol of the Uzbek people’s vast contribution to the victory over fascism, and returning the monument to its original place “is not just a fair decision, but an unforgettable unique event, for which many thanks and low bow to our President!”

Worth reminding that at the dawn of the war, when Central Asia opened up to endless trains with evacuated residents of the European part of the USSR, the Shamahmudovs took over 15 orphan children - Russian, Belarusian, Moldovan, Ukrainian, Latvian, Tatar, Jewish, German and Kazakh.

The house of Shaahmed and his wife Bahri became a small corner of kindness in the bread city of Tashkent. The head of this international family was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor, and Bahri-opa proudly wore the title The Hero Mother. The Shamahmudovs became prototypes for Rahmat Fayzi’s novel “His Majesty the Human” and the celebrated motion pictures “You are not an orphan”, “Leningrad people are my children”.

The monument dedicated to the Shamahmudovs’ feat was erected in Tashkent on May 26, 1982, and stood in its honorable place for almost 26 years. Residents and guests of Tashkent liked to relax and take pictures at the sculptural composition located in its center that captured the blacksmith and his wife surrounded by the children they adopted.

But on the morning of April 12, 2008, people living nearby, on their way to work, literally dumbfounded: the place of the usual symbol of the “bread city” was replaced with a blackened square of freshly dug soil, as if a fresh grave mound was formed over night. Soon, a solid flowerbed with bright flowers emerged on this place.

The monument was sent by the authorities of Tashkent to the outskirts of the city: it was installed near a post of the traffic police, behind the capital’s clothing market (the former Hippodrome). According to the Tashkent hokimiyat, “the transfer of the monument with the loss of relevance of the title “Friendship of Peoples” was caused by the need to rename the Palace of Arts Khalqlar Dustligi (Friendship of Peoples) into Istiqlol Palace.

At first, the monument in the new place looked good, and from time to time one could even see bunches of flowers around it, but eventually the people began to forget about it. The townspeople rarely visited it, because it would take a long and uncomfortable way to reach it. The path to the monument practically overgrew with grass both in direct sense and figuratively.

But thanks to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a monument symbolizing the feat and nobility of the Uzbek people in the war against fascism, moved from the backyard of the city and history to its rightful place in the center of the capital.

UZBEKISTAN - THE COUNTRY OF TOURISM

Sightseeing Tour for Disabled Kids

Travel around the country is becoming accessible to people with disabilities. Thus, an excursion has been organized in Ferghana for students from the Kuvasai specialized boarding school for deaf children under the program “O’zbekiston boylab sayohat qil!”

The students went on a tour of the ‘silk capital’ of Uzbekistan, where they visited the famous Yodgorlik factory. In the popular destination of foreign tourists, they had a happy opportunity to try their hand at weaving art.

Particularly pleasant and surprising for the young generation proved to be the house-museum of pottery master Tohir Haidarov in Rishtan, which is imbued with national spirit and traditional style of handicraft. The ceramist cordially greeted the guests and described in detail the illustrative examples of the history of pottery, which, of course, was cognitive for young travelers.

The program included acquaintance with the historical heritage of Kokand. The pearl of the city – the palace of Khudoyor-khan left a significant impression thanks to the colorful decoration of majolica and mosaics on the facade of the building, the interior of the rooms of past centuries, the rich enhancing ornament of majestic ceilings and the ancient chandeliers on them.

According to the sign language interpreter, such a favorable opportunity certainly plays an important role in the spiritual formation and harmonious development of boarding school pupils.

Such a small step in the development of domestic tourism presented great happiness, vivid emotions and impressions for children with disabilities, which, naturally, pleased all the organizers of the trip.
