Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan: a new stage of cooperation

On April 23, the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov arrived in Uzbekistan on a state visit at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

At the meeting in a narrow format, the need to further strengthen cooperation in countering terrorism, extremism, illicit drug trafficking, transnational organized crime and other threats to international security was noted.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for supporting the initiative of holding the first consultative meeting of the heads of states of Central Asia, which was held on March 15 this year in Astana.

During the negotiations at the extended format, issues of further development of trade and economic cooperation, strengthening bilateral relations in petrochemical, transport-communication, agricultural, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres were discussed.

Following the negotiations at Kuksaroy residence, a ceremony of signing bilateral documents took place. The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed the Joint Statement.

17 documents aimed at further strengthening and progressive development of bilateral cooperation in political, trade-economic, investment, transport-communication, educational and sports spheres were signed.

In particular, an Intergovernmental agreement on interregional cooperation, intergovernmental cooperation programs in the field of transport for 2018-2020 and scientific technical cooperation for 2019-2021, agreements on establishment of trading houses in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, creation of the Business Council between the chambers of commerce and industry of the two countries, a program of cooperation between the ministries of foreign affairs of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan for 2019 were signed.

Documents have also been adopted on strengthening bilateral cooperation in agriculture, sport, science, technology, and other spheres. They include an agreement on cooperation in the field of plant quarantine, memoranda of understanding between trade unions, women’s committees and youth organizations of the two countries.

Within the framework of the visit, 15 documents were also signed between universities and in information and communication sphere.

At the meeting with representatives of the mass media, the Presidents noted that the negotiations were held in the spirit of openness, sincerity and constructive atmosphere, the signed documents will serve to further development of multifaceted and friendly relations in the interests of people of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

In May 2017, as a sign of eternal friendship and brotherhood of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan people, one of the streets of Tashkent was named after Makhtumkuli and a monument was opened in his honor.

In the second half of the day Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited this street. The heads of states laid flowers at the monument to the outstanding Turkmen poet and thinker Makhtumkuli.

This alley, having acquired the appearance of a single ensemble, made a great impression on Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. He expressed gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for the respect shown to people, literature and culture of Turkmenistan.

On the occasion of the visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Uzbekistan, the Ashgabat Park was created on Makhtumkuli Street. The heads of states took part in the opening ceremony of this park.

Presidents got acquainted with conditions created here, planted trees with good intentions.

Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan signed several bilateral document after the talks in Kuksaroy presidential residence in Tashkent.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a Joint Statement.

About 17 documents were signed on the development of interregional cooperation, the opening of trading houses, the organization of the business council, transport, transit, agriculture, science and technology, trade unions, sports and others, the press service of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan said.

In addition, within the framework of the visit, 15 documents were signed between the higher educational institutions of the two countries, as well as on cooperation in the field of information and communication technologies.

At the meeting with representatives of the media, the Presidents noted that the talks were held in a traditionally open and sincere atmosphere, in a constructive spirit, and the parties are pleased with the agreements reached.

The 2017 became historic in Uzbek-Turkmen relations. Today all our agreements are fully realized. This meeting was also very fruitful.

We have thoroughly discussed our cooperation in detail. I want to emphasize that there are no unresolved issues, mutual understanding has been achieved in all areas. On this basis, we outlined the prospects for the further development of partnership between our countries. All that we do is for the sake of our peoples, for the sake of our children's future, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

National Exhibition of Turkmenistan opens new prospects for cooperation

Within the framework of the state visit of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Uzbekistan, the National Exhibition of Turkmenistan is being held in Tashkent. Leading enterprises, companies and organizations, large business entities of the neighboring country are presenting their products and services, advanced technologies.

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev sent a welcome message to participants and guests of the National Exhibition of Turkmenistan.

The welcome message from the President was read by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan N.Otajonov at the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

In the message it is noted that Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan are strategic partners, they are firmly linked by the centuries-old ties of friendship and good-neighborliness, common history, religion and language, culture, customs and traditions, and great prospects are being opened today in the course of intensive business contacts between the business communities of the two countries and within the framework of strengthening interregional ties.

Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations of Turkmenistan D.Urozmurodov noted that Uzbekistan is an important trade and economic partner for businesspeople of Turkmenistan, developing contacts with entrepreneurs of Uzbekistan, through which the important trade routes of the Great Silk Road passed, play a big role for mutually beneficial partnership.

The National Exhibition of Turkmenistan demonstrates the success of this country in petrochemical, textile, medical industry, agriculture and food industry, construction materials industry, transport and logistics, sports and tourism, science, technology and education, as well as various services. The visitors are becoming interested in Turkmen carpets, achievements in fishing industry and horse breeding of Akhal-Teke breed.

At the suggestion of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, 2018 in this country is held under the motto “Turkmenistan is the heart of the Great Silk Road”. Main attention is paid to development of tourism. Representatives of the State Committee for Tourism of Turkmenistan are participating in the exhibition.

Following the National Exhibition of Turkmenistan, it is planned to conclude mutually beneficial agreements between businesspeople of the two countries, which will further strengthen economic cooperation and friendship between fraternal people of the two countries.

Contracts worth 107 million dollars were signed at a business forum

Samarkand hosted a business forum with participation of entrepreneurs from Samarkand region and Sughd region of Tajikistan.

More than 200 businesspeople from Tajikistan and representatives of large enterprises and companies of Samarkand took part in the event. Participants attended the exhibition of products and services of the two regions, exchanged views.

The leaders of the two regions signed a memorandum on development of trade and economic relations between Samarkand and Sughd regions.

At the forum, information was provided on created opportunities and facilities for establishing and developing cooperation between entrepreneurs of the two countries, tax and customs privileges. Large industrial enterprises, travel companies, farmers and entrepreneurs held presentations of their products and services.

Within the framework of the visit of Tajikistan’s entrepreneurs, a cooperation exchange was held, during which the sides exchanged experience, agreed on implementation of joint investment projects and signed mutually beneficial contracts.

At the forum, 170 contracts and memorandums worth 107 million 847 thousand dollars were signed between Samarkand and Sughd regions. In particular, the Samarkand producers concluded 87 contracts on the export of agricultural, food products, textiles, building materials, household items, other goods and services. And more than 10 travel agencies have agreed on organization of excursions of Tajikistan people to Uzbekistan.

Abdulaziz Kamilov meets with FM of India

On April 23, 2018, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov met with the Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India, Sushma Swaraj, in Beijing.

The sides discussed current issues of Uzbek-Indian agenda, noting the new dynamics and positive trends in bilateral relations. In 2017, mutual trade amounted to 323.6 million US dollars, which is almost twice as much as five years ago. The ministers exchanged views on preparations for the upcoming state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to India, confirming the mutual interest in his successful outcome.

At the meeting, proposals for holding the next round of inter-MFA political consultations, sessions of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade-Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation, the Joint Working Group on Combating Terrorism were considered.

The Indian External Affairs Minister congratulated the Uzbek side on the results of the high-level international conference on Afghanistan "The peace process, security cooperation and regional connectivity" held on March 26-27, 2018 in Tashkent, and confirmed the willingness of the Indian side to contribute constructively to the implementation of the final Tashkent Declaration.

The foreign ministers also discussed the agenda of the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization opening this day, in which the Indian delegation participates as a full member of the SCO for the first time.

Abdulaziz Kamilov meets with FM of Pakistan

On April 24, 2018, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, in Beijing.  It was reported by the Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Foreign ministers exchanged views on current issues of Uzbekistan – Pakistan agenda, interaction within the framework of international structures such as the UN, the SCO, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and other international structures.

As noted, in recent years, relations between the two countries have intensified in almost all areas of mutual interest. The summits opened up new prospects for strengthening and developing cooperation.

In the course of an intensive exchange of business delegations, contracts worth 100 million US dollars were signed. Contacts in tourism, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres also gained momentum.

The sides noted with satisfaction the successful results of the international conference on Afghanistan "Peace process, security cooperation and regional connectivity" held on March 26-27, 2018 in Tashkent, and confirmed readiness for constructive cooperation in this important area for the region.

The strongest kurash players fought for the prize of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan

Shakhrisabz city of Kashkadarya region hosted the VII International Kurash tournament, dedicated to the memory of Amir Temur for the prize of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The total prize fund of the prestigious tournament, organized by the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Kurash Federation of the country, the khokimiyat of Kashkadarya region, the International Kurash Association, together with a number of state and public organizations, amounted to 50 thousand US dollars, and the absolute winner of the competition received the prize of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan – 10 thousand US dollars.

The best fighters from thirty countries competed at the central stadium “Khisor”, where the tournament was held. Men fought in four weight classes, and women – in two.

In the final competitions among the kurash players in the absolute weight category Sherali Jurayev (Uzbekistan) defeated Jafar Pahlavani from Iran and together with the gold medal of the tournament he was awarded the prize of the President of Uzbekistan – 10 thousand US dollars. Jafar Pahlavani took the second place, Ilkhom Jurayev (Uzbekistan) and Anar Dorch (Mongolia) became bronze medalists.

Ilyas Ali Akbar (Iran), Behrouzi Khojizoda and Kamronshoh Ustapiryon (Tajikistan) – among men, Gulnor Sulaymanova and Gulnoza Matniyozova (Uzbekistan) – among women were also awarded gold medals in their weight categories.
