Uzbekistan begins preparations for Navruz

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved the composition of the Organizing Committee for the preparation and holding of the national holiday of Navruz in 2018.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved the composition of the Organizing Committee for the preparation and holding of the national holiday of Navruz in 2018.

The Organizing Committee was instructed to develop a program of organizational, practical, cultural, educational and explanatory activities aimed at holding the holiday in our capital – the city of Tashkent, the Republic of Karakalpakstan and regional centers, in all cities, districts and villages as a nationwide sayil, embodying the idea of “Dear compatriots, let your every day will be like Navruz!".

Uzbekistan to Boost Medicine Production

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree on additional measures for accelerated development of the pharmaceutical industry. A roadmap has been approved to ensure favorable conditions for intensive advancement in the sphere.

It is established that the heads of ministries, departments and other organizations bear personal responsibility for the timely, high-quality and full implementation of the road map.

Working groups have been formed to study the real situation in the free economic zones Nukus Pharm, Zomin Pharm, Kosonsoi Pharm, Sirdaryo Pharm, Boisun Pharm, Bustonliq Pharm, Parkent Pharm, and solve existing problems.

The working groups will conduct a study of the allocated land plots for organizing the activities of free economic zones for their compliance with the requirements, the availability of transport, engineering, communication and production infrastructures. The general plans of free economic zones are to be reviewed taking into account the actual situation on the ground and the possibility of their implementation in practice. As a result, measures will be taken to attract potential investors for the implementation of investment projects on the territory of free economic zones.

Within two months, a program of measures for the organization of plantations of medicinal plants and a list of investment projects for the production of finished medicines and medical products, auxiliary and packaging materials planned for sale on the territory of free economic zones will be approved.

The State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Architecture and Construction, the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Motorways, Uzbekenergo, Uztransgaz, Uzbektelecom jointly with other interested agencies was tasked with ensuring the development of a project within a month after the approval of the general plans of free economic zones - budget documentation of projects on development of transport, engineering, communication and industrial infrastructures of free economic zones.

A working commission has been set up to determine the list of priority medicines and medical goods to be developed and produced in Uzbekistan.

In Varakhsha steppe of the Peshku district in Bukhara region, a sand and gravel processing plant, Bunyodbek al-Bukhori, was put into operation

This quarry, the largest in the Bukhara region, is capable of producing more than 30 thousand cubic meters of products a year.

“Our enterprise with a total project cost of $ 452 thousand is equipped with modern technologies,” says the head of Bunyodbek al-Bukhori, I. Mirkhonov. “It produces a variety of sand and gravel mixture used in the construction of buildings, roads and other areas.”

At present the plant already accepts numerous orders. The company employs 48 people. It is expected that by the end of the year it will also establish production of reinforced concrete products. Due to this, another 20 jobs will be created.

In total in the current year in the field in the construction materials industry it is planned to implement 24 projects for 679.3 billion soums (currency rates of CB RU from 26.02.2018, 1$= 8182.73 soums) and create 1,213 new jobs.

Uzbekistan and Tajikistan discuss delimitation and demarcation of state borders

Uzbekistan and Tajikistan held a regular joint meeting of the Uzbek-Tajik Intergovernmental Commission on Delimitation and Demarcation of the State Border in Ferghana on 24 February.

The Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov and the Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kohir Rasulzoda took part in the meeting.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, members of Governments, heads of ministries, departments and leading economic structures of the two countries also took part in the event.

The sides highly appreciated the modern level of Uzbek-Tajik relations in all spheres of interaction.

It was stated that thanks to the political will of the heads of the two states, contacts at the high and highest levels were significantly intensified, an effective exchange of government delegations was established, meetings of intergovernmental commissions were successfully held, and mutual exhibitions of industrial products in the cities of Dushanbe and Tashkent were fruitfully organized.

The delegations of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan discussed issues of passing the project line of the Uzbek-Tajik State border in certain areas. The parties noted that in a short period it was possible to achieve significant progress in the process of delimitation of the State Border.

The participants also paid attention to organizational and content aspects of upcoming events at the highest level - preparation and coordination of a package of bilateral documents, agreements and contracts to be signed during the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Tajikistan, scheduled for March 2018.

Foreign Ministry delegation of Uzbekistan to attend Uzbek-Turkish consultations

On February 26, 2018, the delegation of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry will participate in the Uzbek-Turkish consultations.

The Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev and the Special Representative of the Turkish Republic on Afghanistan Fazli Çorman will discuss issues of settlement of the Afghan situation, and will also exchange views on the agenda of the forthcoming international Tashkent Conference on Afghanistan “The Peace Process, Security Cooperation and Regional Connectivity”, scheduled for March 26-27 2018.

Meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia

On February 23, 2018, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov met with his colleague from the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, in Moscow.

During the conversation the sides exchanged views on the main issues of the Uzbek-Russian agenda, some international and regional issues.

It was noted that the two countries had an active dialogue in 2017. A landmark event became the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Russia on 4-5 April and his negotiations with President Vladimir Putin.

Ministers paid special attention to practical steps on realization of bilateral agreements reached at the highest and other levels.

The sides paid serious attention to problems of regional security, including the situation in Afghanistan. In this context, it was noted that an important role should be played by the upcoming international conference on Afghanistan “Peace process, cooperation in the sphere of security and regional interaction”, in Tashkent.

At the meeting, the Russian side confirmed its interest in successful conduction of Tashkent conference and participation in its work at a high level.

Following the negotiations, the Ministers signed the inter-ministerial cooperation Program for 2018-2019.

Abdulaziz Kamilov and Sergey Lavrov also made brief statements for the mass media and answered journalists' questions.

Uzbekistan – USA: businessmen conducted negotiations via videoconferencing

On February 23, an online dialogue was held between business people of Uzbekistan and the United States in the videoconference format, in Tashkent.

Representatives of ministries, agencies, and companies responsible for such spheres as trade, investments, economy, agriculture, textile, pharmaceutical, chemical and food industries, production of electronics and building materials took part in the negotiations organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and the American – Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce.

Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan A.Ikramov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to the USA J.Vakhobov and others noted that trade, economic and investment cooperation between the two countries is consistently developing, the activity of the American – Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce serves as an important mechanism for supporting and implementing joint projects.

Executive director of the American – Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce E.Son and American businessmen emphasized that the meeting with the group of heads of the leading companies of this country, held during the visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the US on September 18-20, 2017, served as an important factor in filling the business cooperation with new content, wider involvement of the existing capabilities of the sides.

The economic, socio-political, cultural, humanitarian, spiritual and educational reforms taking place in Uzbekistan are of great interest in the international community. International analysts particularly appreciate the large-scale measures being implemented in the economy. Changes in the sphere of further liberalization of business environment, supporting small business and private entrepreneurship contribute to further growth of investment attractiveness of Uzbekistan. More than 160 enterprises with participation of American entrepreneurs are operating in Uzbekistan, which is the result of the ongoing activity on granting preferences and privileges to investors, liberalization of foreign exchange policy.

During the videoconference, American businessmen were told about a number of tax and customs benefits, preferences created for foreign investors and partners in various sectors of the economy of Uzbekistan, in particular, in the agricultural sector.

At the event, representatives of the American company “WCC International” held presentations on opportunities of promoting products of Uzbekistan in the US market, international marketing, e-commerce and other issues. Representatives of business circles of the USA noted the interest in further expansion and strengthening of cooperation with entrepreneurs of Uzbekistan.

Inspectors for safe tourism started their activity

Safe tourism concept in Bukhara, Samarkand, Khiva and Shakhrisabz was approved in accordance with the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan of November 23, 2017.

The concept provides for organization of departments on ensuring safe tourism in the Department of Internal Affairs of Samarkand, Bukhara, Khorezm and Kashkadarya regions, heads of which are at the same time Deputy heads of departments of Internal Affairs of the regions, formation of personnel on a competitive basis, first of all, employees, who are fluent in foreign languages.

According to the group on public relations and mass media of the Department of Internal Affairs of Samarkand region, office for safe tourism was also organized in Samarkand. The office was provided with a separate building, and 50 people were hired. Inspectors are provided with transport and communication means.

Students, who have graduated from Samarkand State University of Foreign Languages, and are fluent in English, French, Japan, Korean and other languages, with deep knowledge about history, ancient monuments of Uzbekistan, national values of our country will join the ranks of employees.

Employees of safe tourism service are provided with medical bags, maps with location scheme of historical monuments and cultural sites of Samarkand. Basically, they will work in the most visited places on the territory of historical monuments.

Creation of safe tourism service will contribute to high-quality service for tourists visiting Samarkand.
