Uzbekistan: Business to Aid the National Pharmaceuticals

Production of sheep wool lanolin substance – a valuable raw material for the pharmaceutical industry – is to be established in the free economic zone Boisun Pharm.

“This substance is produced in a few countries of the world,” said the head of the FEZ M.Ochilov. “There is enough raw material in the Boisun district to produce high-quality, cheap lanolin substance. It is known that the hypodermic glands of sheep give off not only fats, but also the substance lanolin, which, with the help of a special technology with washed wool, is separated and re-processed to eliminate odor. Our businessmen, who studied this process abroad, expressed their desire to use modern technology in the Boisun district. Since the first days of the new year, the implementation of the corresponding business project has begun. This will be a non-waste technology, after the separation of lanolin from wool will produce felting for the national economy.”

Lanolin, which has the property of rapidly absorbing into the human skin, is considered an important raw material for the pharmaceutical and perfume industry. It is widely used as a binder in the manufacture of medicinal candles and ointments.
