President Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulates press and mass media workers

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev sincerely congratulated the press and mass media workers and veterans of the sphere who made a huge contribution to its development, with the Press and Mass Media Workers Day, which is celebrated in Uzbekistan on June 27, and expressed his deep respect and best wishes.

The President noted that thanks to efforts, talent and skill of thousands of representatives of this noble profession, the mass media are becoming closer to the life of people, their joys and cares, play an irreplaceable role in formation of a new, democratic image of Uzbekistan.

In the years of independence, the number of mass media in the country has almost quadrupled and reached 1500, which indicates a consistent continuation of transformation in the sphere.

Profound qualitative changes are taking place along with the growth of quantitative indicators. This can be seen in the example of expansion in the national media space of non-state media network, their effective activities, and accelerated development of Internet journalism. All these are important factors in civil society formation.

– We welcome the atmosphere of openness, objective analysis and criticism in publications, television and radio programs, an increase in the number of materials coming from our journalists from abroad, – said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The President emphasized that the mass media should become “the fourth estate” not in words, but in reality. This is the imperative of time, the demand of our reforms.

In order to improve the system of training modern personnel for the mass media, we recently formed the University of Journalism and Mass Communications of Uzbekistan.

A comprehensive study of the achievements in the field of media, scientific-theoretical foundations of journalism and modern media technologies will contribute to training highly qualified personnel at the level of international standards.

“Undoubtedly, the large practical work carried out in the sphere will create a solid base that will allow domestic journalists to take a worthy place in the global information space”, – said the President.

High trust and incentives increase responsibility

A solemn event dedicated to June 27 – Press and Mass Media Workers Day was held at the Uzbek National Academic Drama Theater.

The event was attended by members of the Senate, deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, representatives of ministries, agencies, public organizations, honorary journalists, publishers, polygraphists, professors and teachers of higher education institutions.

A congratulatory message of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to press and mass media workers was read by the State Advisor to the President H.Sultanov.

This year, for the first time in history, according to the Decree of the President of the country a group of workers making a worthy contribution to the development of the sphere was awarded with high state awards in connection with this significant date. This gave the holiday a peculiar atmosphere and high spirits. At the event, the high awards were solemnly presented.

It was noted that in the country the Head of the state pays great attention to development of the mass media, enhancing effectiveness of the national press. Great gratitude was expressed to the President for a worthy appraisal of the work of workers in the sphere.

Currently, there are more than 1500 media in the country, including 700 newspapers, 309 magazines, 65 TV, 35 radio, 4 news agencies, 15 newsletters, 395 websites. It is the share of non-state media that account for 66 percent of the country’s TV and radio channels, and 50 percent of print media. Before gaining independence, there were 395 media in the republic, almost all of them were state-owned.

The reforms implemented in the sphere require training of personnel meeting modern requirements. In particular, the resolution of the Head of the state “On formation of the University of Journalism and Mass Communications of Uzbekistan” of May 24, 2018 became a historical document in this direction.

At the event, winners of traditional competition “The most active journalist of the year", conducted by the Creative Union of Journalists of Uzbekistan, were awarded.

Tasks for implementation of “Obod qishloq” and “Obod makhalla” programs are identified

On June 27, a meeting dedicated to issues of implementation of “Obod qishloq” (“Prosperous village”) and “Obod makhalla” (“Prosperous neighborhood”) programs, improvement of settlements was held under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Within the framework of “Obod qishloq” program, adopted in accordance with the Decree of the Head of the state of March 29, 2018, this year construction and landscaping activities are being carried out in 386 villages of 159 districts. In these villages, repair of 142 thousand individual and more than one thousand multi-storey houses, three thousand kilometers of roads, laying and restoration of 2,5 thousand kilometers of electric networks, 2 thousand kilometers of water pipes, construction of 2 thousand 400 markets and other infrastructure facilities are planned.

In addition, it is planned to be built and renovate 388 secondary schools, 313 kindergartens, 168 medical institutions, 38 makhallas and 55 other social facilities.

At the meeting, the work implemented in this direction was analyzed, important tasks for the future were identified.

The need to ensure uninterrupted supply of building materials in the required amount, creation of stores of building materials in the countryside was noted. This will not only ensure the quality and timely implementation of planned works, but also prevent the increase in the cost of construction activities.

Instructions were given on development of a master plan for villages additionally introduced in the program, creating necessary funds, attracting investments to the countryside.

Special attention was paid to improving the supply of drinking water. It was emphasized that it is necessary to accelerate construction and repair activities of water supply systems, as well as repair roads, power lines and gas pipelines.

Tasks for implementation of “Obod qishloq” and “Obod makhalla” programs

Tasks on construction of educational and medical institutions, points of trade and consumer services, creation of small shops in rural areas were also determined.

As it is known, during the visit to “Hirmontepa” and “Tirsakobod” makhallas of Chilanzar district on June 4 this year, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev gave instructions on development of the “Obod makhalla” program.

Today, activities on improvement of the territory of one mahalla are being carried out as an experiment in 11 districts of the capital and 30 cities of the country. Activities for 72 billion sums were executed in 41 makhallas for the expired short period.

“Obod makhalla” program was adopted taking into account the positive experience in this direction and wishes of the population.

In accordance with the program, the appearance of at least 2 makhallas in each city will be radically changed this year, and at least 3 makhallas annually until 2022. Activity will be carried out on construction and repair of water pipes, electric networks, gas pipes and sewerage systems. Besides, it is envisaged to repair 5 thousand 607 kilometers of internal roads, 369 objects of social sphere, creation of 969 objects of market infrastructure and service points. “Obod makhalla” funds will be formed at local khokimiyats for this purpose.

– “Obod qishloq” and “Obod makhalla” programs have one of the most important places in implementation of reforms. Since we have committed ourselves to our people on solving their problems, improving living conditions and quality of life, – said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The President gave instructions on the system organization of construction and landscaping activities implemented within the framework of these programs.

Growing Interest of Investors

Deepak Rein, a representative of one of Asia’s leading corporations, the Singapore-based holding company Indorama, has visited the Syrdarya region to study investment opportunities and discuss launching new productions.

The businessman noted that he was pleased with the conditions and privileges created for foreign investors in the Syrdarya region. In particular, he stressed that the region has ample opportunities for the production, processing and export of agricultural products. He expressed opinion that he intends to create a cotton cluster and cotton processing enterprises here.

The holding company Indorama was established in 1975 under the foundation of the Indonesian company Synthetics Indo-Rama. At present, the company produces polyethylene, polypropylene, polyester, mineral fertilizers, textile products and medical gloves.

The region’s hokim supported the idea of a foreign entrepreneur and proposed the allocation of land in the Akaltyn and Sardoba districts. On the same day, Deepak Rein visited these areas, studied the proposed territories, met with hokims of the districts.
