Four Stars for the Tourist

Another modern four-star hotel will soon open its doors in Tashkent. Ahmet Demir, head of Demir Group, has told journalists about the reconstruction of the Chorsu Hotel.

- You invest in the project of reconstruction of the Chorsu Hotel and the creation of a modern service complex. What prompted you to try yourself in the hospitality business?

- Today, Uzbekistan opens its doors to the whole world. In this case, to develop the hotel business, provide high-quality service is extremely important for the image of the country. For example, the hotel system in Turkey is for 1.5 million beds. In Uzbekistan, this figure is 40 thousand.

To be sure, the numbers are growing every year. But for today’s tourism potential of your country that is not enough. If we take into account real needs, then this indicator should be at least 500 thousand beds. This is one of the reasons for our participation in the reconstruction project of the hotel in Tashkent. A presidential decree on the organization of the tourist zone Eski Shahar (Old City) accelerated our work.

- What is the total cost of reconstruction of the hotel and when is it expected to open?

- The project is estimated at 33 million dollars, the preparation of the necessary documents and construction and repair works under the plan will take two years. Until the end of 2019, the hotel is planned to be fully commissioned. The area of the building is 34 thousand square meters. And to give it a modern look is not an easy task. There was no elevator in the 24-storey building, and it took us as long as 6 months to completely clear it of the accumulated garbage. After that, the technical condition of the building was examined.

- Among the people there is gossip that the building has squinted, sank to one side. And what do specialists think?

- First of all, I will say that the hotel building is considered unique not only in Uzbekistan, but also in the CIS countries. Its design was prepared in Moscow. The designers speak of its high seismic resistance.

It consists of four parts. The central sector is connected to three separate buildings. They are like strong fortresses. Crucially, the design is well preserved, has not shrunk in any of the parts. Technical indicators suggest that the building will endure for many years.

The development of the hotel project involved specialists of the company Marius, whose practice includes the creation of a worldwide hotel network of 1.1 million beds.

- How many stars will the hotel have and how many guests can it serve?

- The hotel is a four-star facility, and it will have 350 rooms. Our foreign partners have noted that for a quality service in such a large building, 2 hectares of adjacent area will not be enough. We asked the Tashkent hokimiyat and other authorized bodies to allocate additional area. As a result, we were given an additional 3 hectares of land.

Here, all conditions that international hotels boast will be created. Outdoor and indoor pools, a tennis court, a luxurious hall for large forums, events and celebrations, as well as conference rooms for businesspeople will be at the service of guests.

Another innovation of the project is the creation of a complex of artisans near the hotel, in which 22 handicraft centers will function.

In addition, the complex will be built up with three two-story buildings. One will become an office for foreign investors. The other will accommodate the Cover Work Center, where young entrepreneurs can work. The third building will house a family hotel. Each apartment of that hotel will consist of three rooms, where we create a home environment.
